Taking the World to Manila

Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila

The De La Salle Worlds Commitment to Hospitality

The Philippines is known by many tourists for her warmth, especially her sunny picturesque beaches—Boracay, Palawan, Siargao, Pearl Farm, Pagudpud. But aside from that, many tourists will also tell you about the warmth of hospitality of the people. It is the Warm Filipino Hospitality that the Philippines is very much known for, which we aim to provide to all of our participants. We want to ensure that you have a memorable stay in Manila and will look to our roots to do just that.

Food

Filipinos love to eat. It could be because meal time is one of the rare times that the families spend together during the day. It could be because there is always a monstrous amount of food on the table. Or, it could simply be because Filipinos love food. Perhaps it is unreasonable to go to the extent of saying that Food is a universal language, much like numbers, but eating is, indeed, a universal past time.

The Philippines is one of the few countries where people typically eat an average of five meals a day. Breakfast. Morning Snack. Lunch. Afternoon Snack. Dinner. Some even squeeze-in a midnight snack while enjoying cold beverages with friends in the evening. De La Salle Worlds offers 4 out of the 5 staple meals of the Filipinos (if there was more time, we’d probably offer all 5!).

Filipinos typically entertain guests by offering them food. If you end up at the house of a local, it is likely that they will offer you a drink and before you know it, there will be an accompanying sandwich as well. Guests of Filipino households are always treated to the best. This is why the country is known for its hospitality.

Exploration

One of the best things about Manila is that virtually everyone speaks English– whether you are giving instructions to a cab driver, asking for directions to the nearest restroom, or ordering your lunch at a local restaurant, people are likely to understand what you are saying. This means that you won’t have much trouble exploring the historical streets of Manila and other nearby cities during your free time.

Excursion packages for the free day and post tournament will be made available online but can also be applied for on Day 0 and Day 1. These packages will be released on the website during the registration period.

We will also be providing participants with a Little Black Book of Manila—our version of the places to see, things to do, and food to eat while you are visiting the Philippines. The Little Black Book will be issued with the tournament kits during in house registration.

Liaison Officers

We are mobilizing a group of young and energetic volunteers to help out during De La Salle Worlds. Each contingent will have a liaison officer that they can contact for any questions or in case of any emergency. Aside from the Liaison Officers, each participant will also have a direct line to the Convenor, Deputy Convenor, and Project Coordinator.

Our trip to Botswana Worlds is a testament to what Philippine Hospitality really is. In fact, with their warmth, our trip to Botswana became more enjoyable. It took just the openness of the Filipino community in Botswana to total strangers to really make a difference. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Philippine Embassies in Hong Kong and Pretoria and especially the Filipino Association in Botswana for showing us the real meaning of Philippine Hospitality.
