About the La Salle Debate Society

The La Salle Debate Society is one of the most successful student debate organizations in Asia and the Country. It has produced multi-awarded speakers including the very first Asian to receive the prestigious Martin Sorsen Best Speaker Trophy and the most awarded Filipino in the field of Public Speaking in this decade, Ms. Lucinda David.
It is among the oldest organizations in De La Salle University and one of the oldest if not the oldest debate organization in the country. It was founded in 1922 to expose Lasallians to humanities, the arts and intellectual discourse. Throughout the years, the organization has time and again changed names—from Forensics to Forensic Debate and eventually becoming the modern Debate Society that we have today. Despite the constant reinvention, one thing remained constant: the organization’s relentless pursuit of excellence in the tradition of upholding La Sallian values in every debate.
As debaters, we not only pay homage to the philosophy of being achievers for God and country, we live by it every single day. The scholarly lifestyle is not easy to actualize but it is worth living.
